PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A Maine foundation and one of its founders are providing the University of Southern Maine with $600,000 for scholarships.
The state university system says the Bob Crewe Foundation is giving the university $500,000 in scholarship support for the USM School of Music. Co-founder Daniel Crewe is also making a personal commitment of $100,000 for scholarships.
Bob Crewe, who died in 2014, was a songwriter and music producer who co-wrote hit songs for the Four Seasons, including “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Walk Like a Man.”
The foundation announced the donation on Dec. 2 at the university’s President’s Scholarship Gala in Portland. The event came after USM President Glenn Cummings’ inauguration and featured the School of Music.
