In one of the most-watched races of the 2016 election, Sen. Pat Toomey is running neck-and-neck with Katie McGinty among likely voters in Pennsylvania, and trails his challenger among registered voters.

“In the US Senate race, Democrat Katie McGinty has a one-point lead over Republican Senator Pat Toomey 39 percent to 38 percent among likely voters,” a poll from Franklin and Marshall College Poll found. “Only one in four registered voters believes Senator Toomey has done a good enough job to deserve re-election.”

Ms. McGinty has a 38 percent to 30 percent lead among registered voters, the poll showed.

The race in Pennsylvania is considered a crucial Senate battleground as Republicans look to protect their 54-to-46 seat majority.

Democrats need to net four seats to take control of the Senate if Hillary Clinton wins the White House and five if Donald Trump wins.
