It’s not an April Fool’s joke. The first home shopping channel for guns began airing live in some living rooms across the U.S. on Friday.
GunTV, a QVC-type channel dealing firearms is a “revolutionary new television network that drives an important social responsibility message using a national platform to reach the masses,” according to its website.
The network offers “education, information and safety regarding firearms in America while responsibly offering extraordinary access to purchasing the most diverse representation of firearms in the world.”
The all-gun TV channel will air live at midnight on April 1 and will run until 6 a.m. on over 50 broadcast stations across the country. Those who can’t view GunTV in their local area can stream it live on the network’s website.
The gun channel touts a broad range or firearms, ammunition and accessories and claims “the ease and convenience of purchasing firearms will be as simple as consumers calling a toll-free number and placing their order,” GunTV says in a promotional video, Newsweek reported.
To buy a gun through the network, a GunTV viewer can place an order over the phone, then the team delivers the information electronically to a sporting goods distributor. The fulfillment partner then ships the weapon to the customer’s local brick-and-mortar gun store.
The prospective buyer must first pass a background check and complete paperwork before the licensed dealer completes the sale.
GunTV was previously scheduled to launch on Jan. 20, during the industry’s annual SHOT Show in Las Vegas. But the team extended the date to allow for additional time to finalize vendor agreements and train staff, Newsweek reported.
