The Washington Redskins announced on Monday safety Duke Ihenacho will miss the remainder of the season after fracturing his left wrist in the team’s 17-10 Week 1 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Ihenacho needed surgery to repair the injury and was placed on injured reserve.

It’s the second consecutive year the 26-year-old’s season has been cut short by an injury. He broke a bone in his left heel in Week 3 last year.

The Redskins also signed free agent cornerback Will Blackmon and signed cornerback Dashaun Phillips to the practice squad. The team cut fullback Ray Agnew from the practice squad to make room for Phillips.

Blackmon appeared in eight games last season with the Jaguars, tallying 30 tackles along with a forced fumble and a sack.

In 2013, the nine-year veteran played 15 games with the Jaguars, recording 40 tackles with 11 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, an interception and a sack.

Blackmon started his career with the Green Bay Packers, where he appeared in 32 games over four seasons before joining the New York Giants for two years.

The cornerback signed with the Seahawks in March, but was released as the 53-man roster was finalized.

The addition of Blackmon should help the Redskins’ thinning secondary. Chris Culliver was suspended for this week’s game against the St. Louis Rams. Corner Justin Rogers is also questionable after battling plantar fasciitis on Sunday.

Trenton Robinson is listed as the team’s starting strong safety with Ihenacho injured. Robinson played all 48 snaps on Sunday after Ihenacho was injured.
