The pace of Sen. Marco Rubio’s fundraising slowed over the last three months, with the Florida Republican pulling in about $6 million for his presidential campaign.
Mr. Rubio’s campaign officials informed top donors in Las Vegas Thursday that the freshman lawmaker has raised a total of $18 million since entering the race and has about $11 million cash on hand, according to a source at the gathering.
The fundraising reports do not have to be filed until next week, but the numbers are starting to trickle out and could help fuel story lines that could make or break some of the candidates’ White House hopes.
Mr. Rubio’s haul pales in comparison to the announcement from Ben Carson’s campaign that the retired neurosurgeon raised more than $20 million between July 1 and Sept. 30, but it is much better than the $2.5 million that Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky plans to report in the third quarter.
Mr. Rubio reported raising more $12 million between April and the end of June, including a $3.3 million transfer from his Senate re-election bid.
Mr. Rubio’s officials attributed the dip in fundraising over the last three months to the growth of the field in July when Govs. Scott Walker of Wisconsin and John Kasich of Ohio entered the race, as well as to the predictably slow month of August.
They expressed confidence that October will be their best month to date.
