One of the most popular singers on the planet dubbed Donald J. Trump a “clown” this week and then immediately turned around to apologize to clowns.

Barcelona-based daily newspaper La Vanguardia reported that Julio Iglesias announced he will no longer perform in casinos owned by Mr. Trump because of his comments about immigrants.

“I have sung many times in his casinos, but I won’t do it again,” Mr. Iglesias said. “He thinks he can fix the world forgetting what immigrants have done for his country. He is a clown! And my apologies to clowns.”

Mr. Trump is leading the field of GOP presidential contenders in polls and his calls for a crackdown on illegal immigration have sparked a backlash from immigration rights activists, and applause from some grassroots conservatives.

Rasmussen Reports, meanwhile, released a poll last year found that 43 percent of Americans don’t like circus clowns.
