The Washington Redskins signed cornerback Deshazor Everett to the 53-man roster from the practice squad on Saturday and cut defensive end Frank Kearse.Â
The Redskins are pressed for depth in the secondary after cornerback Chris Culliver sustained a left knee injury during Wednesday’s practice and was limited. He missed practice on both Thursday and Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The fact that the team signed Everett does not bode well for Culliver’s availability on Sunday.
On Thursday, coach Jay Gruden said, “Deshazor could be pulled up soon obviously if Culliver has more issues.”
Veteran corner DeAngelo Hall sustained a grade-two toe sprain in the team’s 32-21 loss to the New York Giants in Week 3 and is expected to be out three to four weeks. On Tuesday, the Redskins placed cornerback Justin Rogers on injured reserve because of plantar fasciitis.Â
Prior to signing Everett, the Redskins had just three healthy corners available for Sunday’s game: Bashaud Breeland, Will Blackmon and Quinton Dunbar — a former wide receiver who switched positions in training camp.Â
Blackmon signed with the team in Week 2 when Culliver was suspended. If Culliver is out on Sunday, Dunbar is expected to start opposite Breeland, with Blackmon playing the slot.Â
