Forget the Carolina Panthers, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina said his loyalty lies further north when it comes to National Football League - at least during the 2016 presidential campaign.

“Unlike these other three, I want to win New Hampshire - Go Tom Brady! Go Patriots!” Mr. Graham joked during the third GOP undercard debate, alluding to the New England Patriots and their four-time Super Bowl champion quarterback.

Mr. Graham has spent more time than any of the GOP candidates in New Hampshire, host of the first-in-the-nation primary.

Mr. Graham spit out the remark after the candidates were asked by CNBC moderators whether they think there should be a national holiday the day after the Super Bowl.

Former New York Gov. George Pataki said he has been a “long-suffering [New York] Jets fan.”

“So my answer is obviously ’No,’ there is no reason to take off the day after the Super Bowl,” he said.
