The mother of Freddie Gray attempted to commit suicide Wednesday evening, according to a Baltimore TV station.

WJZ-TV reported Thursday evening, citing “multiple sources,” that Gloria Darden was taken to a northeast Baltimore hospital after having “sustained superficial wounds” in an apparent attempt to kill herself.

The TV station said no surgery or stitches were required.

Ms. Darden is currently being evaluated by a psychiatrist, the sources told WJZ.

Earlier this fall, Ms. Darden and other members of the Gray family were awarded $6.4 million in a settlement with the city of Baltimore over her son’s death in public custody.
