Spartanburg Methodist College in South Carolina was on lockdown Monday night after a campus police officer killed a suspect who tried to run over him in a stolen car.

According to Diana Watson of the local Fox affiliate, a campus police officer was responding to reports of a car break-in when the fatal altercation happened.

The campus officer, who was not immediately named, was hit by the suspect car, and then shot and killed the suspect, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

“One dead, one in custody after officer-involved shooting at Spartanburg Methodist College. Officer ok after hit by car,” she tweeted.

The college posted about the lockdown on its official Twitter feed, telling students on the word of “Dean Lafitte” that “SMC is on lockdown. go to your residence hall room and stay there until notified.”
