British radical cleric Anjem Choudary returned to jail Friday after allegedly breaking the terms of his bail for charges of inviting support for the Islamic State terrorist group.

Mr. Choudary, who has been frequently interviewed by U.S. media for his extremist views on Islam, appeared Friday at Westminster magistrates court, accused of meeting an individual he had been ordered not to under the conditions of his bail, Agence France-Presse reported.

Mr. Choudary, 48, was arrested in August but was granted bail on Sept. 4, pending a trial to be held in January. He and co-defendant Mohammed Rahman, 32, are charged with inviting support for the Islamic State between June 2014 and March 2015 on social media.

Mr. Choudary said at an earlier hearing that he would plead not guilty.
