An Australian man’s high-pitched screams while attempting to kill a spider in his apartment prompted neighbors to call North Sydney police recently, as they worried that someone was being violently hurt in a domestic disturbance.
North Sydney police said in a Facebook post on Saturday that they received a 2 a.m. call after neighbors heard a someone yelling hysterically, “I’m going to kill you. Your [sic] dead! Die. Die!!” and furniture being tossed around.
Numerous police cars were dispatched. When police arrived, they banged on the door, and a man who was “out of breath” and “flushed” opened it, they said.
Police peppered the man with questions, such as “We had a report of a domestic and a women screaming, where is she?” and “Come on mate, what have you done to her?” they said in the Facebook post of the conversation.
“It was a spider,” the man told them.
“What about the woman screaming?” they asked.
“Yeah sorry that was me. I really, really hate spiders,” the man said.
Police said, “At this point the male became very sheepish.”
“As it turns out the male was chasing a rather large spider around the unit with a can [of] mortein. After a very long pause some laughter and a quick look in the unit to make sure there was no injured party (apart from the spider) we left,” police said. Mortein is a brand of bug spray.
