Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has a 19-point lead over Democratic presidential rival Sen. Bernard Sanders of Vermont, according to a poll released Thursday.

Mrs. Clinton has the support of 52 percent of Democratic primary voters in the national CBS News/New York Times poll, followed by Mr. Sanders at 33 percent and former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley at 5 percent.

She has a 28-point, 56 percent to 28 percent advantage over Mr. Sanders among women and a 5-point, 46 percent to 41 percent edge among men.



Mrs. Clinton also has a sizable 68 percent to 19 percent advantage over Mr.Sanders among non-whites and a 46 percent to 39 percent edge over the senator among whites.

Mr. Sanders actually has a 6-point, 46 percent to 40 percent lead among voters between the ages of 18 and 45, while Mrs. Clinton has a 41-point, 63 percent to 22 percent lead among people 45 years or older.

The candidates will square off Saturday in the second Democratic debate of the cycle at Drake University in Des Moines.
