The Salvation Army is using the black and blue — or is it white and gold? — dress that drove the Internet into a frenzy to draw attention to domestic violence in a new ad.

The South African branch of the charity tweeted a public service announcement Friday, depicting a bruised woman in a white-and-gold version of the dress with the caption, “Why is it so hard to see black and blue?”

The accompanying tweet states: “One in 6 women are victims of abuse #StopAbuseAgainstWomen.”

The ad campaign comes just before International Women’s Day on March 8.

The ad refers to an image of a dress, that is actually black and blue, that went viral last month. The lighting in the image makes the dress appear to be white and gold to some. The image sparked a worldwide debate over the dress color and the optical illusion.
