Mo’ne Davis is asking Bloomsburg University to reinstate first baseman Joey Casselberry after he was booted from the team for calling the 13-year-old Little League Baseball star a “slut.”
Mr. Casselberry tweeted criticism on Friday of the news that the Disney Channel is making a movie about Mo’ne, a pitcher from Philadelphia who played in the 2014 Little League World Series, Philly.com reported.
“Disney is making a movie about Mo’ne Davis? WHAT A JOKE. That slut got rocked by Nevada,” he wrote.
Bloomsburg University announced Mr. Casselberry’s dismissal on Twitter, saying “his words do not represent us.”
Before his Twitter account was deactivated Saturday night, Mr. Casselberry wrote, “An example that one stupid tweet can ruin someone’s life and I couldn’t be more sorry about my actions last night. I please ask you to … Forgive me and truly understand that I am in no way shape or form a sexist and I am a huge fan of Mo’ne. She was quite an inspiration.”
Mo’ne is asking Bloomsburg University President David L. Soltz to reconsider the decision in removing Mr. Casselberry from the team, TMZ reported. The university praised the teenager’s maturity, but for now isn’t planning on reinstating the junior first baseman, saying, “Right now we’re standing firm.”
