COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Maryland football coach Randy Edsall has received a three-year contract extension that will run through the 2019 season.
The extension, which begins in January 2017, is worth up to $7.5 million, though only $500,000 is guaranteed. Edsall will also receive an increase of $71,000 in each of the final two seasons of his original contract.
The Terrapins flourished in 2014, their first year in the Big Ten. Maryland beat Penn State and Michigan on the road and finished 4-4 in the conference, 7-6 overall. It was the team’s second consecutive winning season under Edsall, who took over in 2011 after a successful stint at UConn.
Edsall has an overall record of 20-30 at Maryland but has guided the team to bowl appearances the last two years. In addition, 21 student-athletes were named to the all-Big Ten academic team in 2014.
