Now creating buzz: Zano, a powerful little drone that comes with a promise: “Taking your selfies to new heights.” It can perch on a palm, then rise up to snap still or video images with a 5-megapixel camera. “Oh, the noble quest for the perfect selfie,” says Jill Scharr, a staff writer for Tom’s Guide, an industry review. “Meet the Zano, a camera-equipped drone barely bigger than a person’s hand, and designed to let users take high-quality photos that even a selfie stick can’t reach.”

The baby drone was created by Lantronix, a Welsh company which manufactures wireless products primarily for defense purposes; the little “nano drone” has a range of up to 100 feet and features a replaceable battery. It can be recharged through a USB outlet and is steered via a smartphone app. Consumers will appreciate the price when the Zano goes on sale in early summer - under $300.

“Our goal was to make aerial photography and video capture truly accessible to everyone,” noted spokesman Reece Crowther to those who helped the drone’s development get underway via a Kickstarter fundraiser page. “This meant making Zano small and lightweight, yet durable enough to take with you anywhere - intelligent enough so no piloting skills were required, and most of all, pricing Zano at a point that makes it affordable.”

The device was introduced at the International Consumer Electronic Show, staged in Las Vegas. It was rated No. 6 in the top-10 list of “not to miss” technology.
