Kentucky Secretary of State Allison Lundergan Grimes says she will run for statewide office this year, but with about a week before a filing deadline was not quite ready to say for which one Monday.

“Everything from governor to attorney general, to secretary of state,” Ms. Grimes told The Associated Press outside of the 21st annual Alpha Pi Alpha Unity Breakfast. “I don’t have to be in D.C. to get some good things done for the people of Kentucky. We’ll do it right here in Kentucky.”

Ms. Grimes ended up losing a spirited campaign to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell last year by double digits in what had been one of Democrats’ lone pick-up hopes in the battle for control over the U.S. Senate. During the closing stretch of the campaign, she drew some additional attention for repeatedly refusing to say whether she voted for President Obama, whose approval rating in Kentucky was well below Mr. Obama’s national average.

Attorney General Jack Conway is running for governor on the Democratic side, and Andy Beshear, the son of Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear, is running for attorney general.
