The U.S. Consulate in Istanbul said Wednesday it would cancel all consular services because it had “information about a possible security threat” against the mission.

“We strongly encourage U.S. citizens to maintain a high level of vigilance, be aware of local events, and take the appropriate steps to bolster your personal security,” the consulate said in a statement on its website.

Details of the threat weren’t initially clear.

State Department spokesman John Kirby told reporters that routine services at the mission had been canceled but limited, urgent services would be provided, Reuters reported. Other embassies in the Turkish cities of Ankara, Izmir and Adana will operate normally.
