An Austrian radio station has punished one of its jockey’s after he decided to play a prank on listeners, locking himself in the studio and playing the song “Last Christmas” 24 times in a row.
Timm Bodner, programming chief of the station Antenne Kaernten in Austria’s province of Carinthia, told Reuters that the 27-year-old disc jockey barricaded himself in the studio on Friday with a wooden stick to play the prank on listeners.
The marathon continued Friday until the disc jockey’s daughter called the studio to beg her father to stop playing it because the song made everyone “mad,” Reuters reported.
The song is a cult hit from the 1980s British band “Wham!” It’s become a modern Christmas classic, with newer cover versions from stars like Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande popping up on U.S. radio stations.
Mr. Bodner said the prank was funny, but he said there would have to be consequences.
“As a consequence he will have to work tomorrow on Christmas and on New Year’s Eve,” he told Reuters.
