Robert P. George, Princeton law professor and prominent proponent of religious freedom and traditional marriage, has been hospitalized, but his condition is not deemed life-threatening anymore, The Christian Post reported Friday.
He checked himself into a New Jersey hospital several days ago after feeling abdominal pain. Physicians found a serious and rare heart condition known as aortic arterial dissection, The Christian Post said, quoting Ryan T. Anderson, a scholar and former student of Mr. George who works at the Heritage Foundation.
Mr. George has since been transferred to Weill Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan for further treatment, the media outlet said.
Bradford Wilson, executive director of the James Madison Program on American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University, told The Christian Post that Mr. George is “out of danger.”
Mr. George is chairman of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom and recipient of many awards and honors due to his academic and legal leadership on constitutional law, ethics and political philosophy.
He is also founder of the American Principles Project, which recently released a statement signed by 60 legal scholars and associates calling for public officials to “resist” the Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage because it is “anti-constitutional and illegitimate.”
