The Republican presidential primary debate Thursday night put White House press secretary Josh Earnest to sleep — literally.

Mr. Earnest told reporters Friday that President Obama did not watch the debate, the first such forum in the 2016 GOP primary process. But the press secretary said he caught the debate, other than a brief period where he fell asleep.

“I did have the opportunity to watch the debate. I was disappointed it started so late, so there was a point where I did doze off during the debate,” he said. “But I woke up and thought I’d been transported back to 2012, where we saw a variety of Republicans making outlandish and certainly outside the mainstream claims about the country.”
