Former Navy SEAL Timothy A. Holden was killed when a car struck him as he was bicycling down Massachusetts Avenue Friday morning.

Mr. Holden, 64, was a retired Navy captain and survived the Persian Gulf War. He worked as a counter-terrorism expert for the military, ABC reported.

The crash that killed Mr. Holden remains under investigation.

Montgomery County Police officials say Mr. Holden was pedaling east in the 6000 block of Massachusetts Avenue around 6:15 a.m. when a Chevrolet Malibu struck the cyclist who was wearing a helmet. Mr. Holden died at the scene.

“Preliminary investigation is that they were both heading east and the position of the vehicles is under investigation,” Montgomery County Police Capt. David Falcinelli told local news station WTOP.

Capt. Falcinelli said the driver, a 22-year-old man from Edgewood is cooperating with police.

Mr. Holden leaves behind a wife, five daughters and three grandchildren.
