The president’s approval rating among Hispanics has dropped, though it still remains above the national average, a poll released Friday said.
The Gallup poll found that 52 percent of Hispanics think President Obama is doing a good job. That’s down from a high of 74 percent in right after the president’s re-election in 2013, but still 10 points higher than the current national average among adults of 42 percent.
Hispanics are also more Democratic than the average public, which could be why the president has a higher approval rating. About 49 percent of Hispanics said they are Democrats, compared to 43 percent among all Americans. Hispanics voted overwhelmingly for President Obama in the 2012 election, with 71 percent supporting him and just 27 percent supporting GOP nominee Mitt Romney.
One reason for the drop in job approval may be the president and Congress failing so far to make good on their promise to address immigration reform, the poll said.
The results come from telephone interviews with 15,000 Americans, including more than 1,000 Hispanic adults across the country every month throughout August. The margin of error is 3 percent for the Hispanic population and 1 percent for the general population.
