New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is making a campaign swing Tuesday through the Carolinas, boosting the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in North Carolina and bolstering his own presidential ambitions with events in the early primary state of South Carolina.

At the Dixie Grill in Wilmington, North Carolina, the governor stumped with Republican candidate Thom Tillis and slammed the incumbent Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan for being a “rummer stamp” for President Obama.

“In this election, North Carolina has the chance to replace President Obama’s rubber-stamp Kay Hagan with a proven independent leader in Thom Tillis, who is ready to shakeup the status quo in Washington and deliver results,” said Mr. Christie.

Mr. Christie echoed the Tillis campaign message that Mrs. Hagan is too closely allied with Mr. Obama, who is extremely unpopular in the Tar Heel State.

“I’m proud to stand with Thom, who is the true embodiment of the American Dream, having come from humble beginnings to work his way up the business world,” he said. “Thom has demonstrated time after time that he’s not afraid to stand up to either party to do what’s right for North Carolina families, and we need that kind of bold leadership in the Senate.”

Mr. Christie then headed to South Carolina for a series of events and fundraisers with Gov. Nikki Haley.
