RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Former Gov. Jim Martin says it’s an unusual experience to give up mementos from his life - including his years as North Carolina’s chief executive - for history’s sake.
Still, Martin seemed to relish the moment Monday during a ceremony at the N.C. Museum of History attended by current Gov. Pat McCrory and Martin administration aides.
The 78-year-old Martin is an ex-college professor and Republican congressman elected governor 30 years ago next month, serving until early 1993.
Donated artifacts include the Bible he used when sworn into office a second time in 1989 and the suit his wife Dottie wore that day. He also presented Rubik’s Cubes used as props on the campaign trail and a tuba he’s played over the years. He performed a quick tune for attendees.
