A new poll shows Republican Gov. Tom Corbett of Pennsylvania closing the gap against Democratic Tom Wolf, trailing the challenger by 7 percentage points.

The survey by Magellan Strategies, a Republican polling firm, shows Mr. Wolf with 49 percent and Mr. Corbett with 42 percent, the narrowest margin of the race.

The Real Clear Politics average of polls has Mr. Wolf leading by about 11 percentage points, down from nearly 20 points in September.

Mr. Wolf, a former state revenue secretary, wants to increase state income taxes on wealthier families and impose a new tax on shale gas extraction, while saying he also wants to cut income taxes for middle-class workers.
