Rep. Steve King, Iowa Republican, acknowledged Friday that while President Obama isn’t going to sign a full repeal of his health care law, Republicans who want to vote on repeal are simply following through on their campaign pledges.
“Every Republican that I know of ran on full repeal of Obamacare — there were more ads run on the full repeal of Obamacare than anything else,” Mr. King said on CNN’s “New Day.” “The voters have spoken — the Republicans are going to listen to the people that voted and the president seems to be listening to what he thinks the people who were not voting - that’s not the American way.”
House Speaker John A. Boehner and presumptive Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell indicated this week that rolling back the law will be a top priority for the new Congress.
Mr. King said Obamacare must be seen as a “jigsaw puzzle,” saying that Mr. Obama would veto a full repeal initially but that he would have to send it back to the Congress with his objections.
“Then we take the pieces of that jigsaw puzzle apart and we send … a piece at a time back to the president’s desk,” he said.
Mr. King also said there’s a chance that Senate Democrats up for re-election in 2016 might change their tune on the law if there are actual votes.
