OPINION:
Clare Lopez’s piece claiming that the revolution in Iran is over and that the people of Iran are ready to join the international community as a partner is belied by the recitation of facts in the same piece (“A rose-colored glasses vision of a ’new Iran,’” Web, Nov. 4).
With a nuclear and missile program designed to subjugate its neighbors, spread worldwide radical Islam and destroy Israel, Iran has shown no perceptible change in its revolutionary agenda. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei remains as the supreme commander in Iran, and his word is law. All opposition is suppressed either by execution of Ayatollah Khamenei’s opponents or by long prison sentences that include torture.
Women are still relegated to second-class citizenship. Support is not only still being given to terrorist organizations worldwide, the level of support continues to increase.
If as the article claims we are seeing a more kindly and cooperative Iran, there is no proof of that contention in Tehran’s current actions.
