Five men have been released from Guantanamo, as the U.S. ramps up efforts to shut down the detention center on the U.S. Navy base in Cuba.
U.S. officials told The Associated Press Thursday that two men were sent to Slovakia and three others were sent to Georgia.
State Department envoy Clifford Sloan praised the countries for taking the men, AP reported.
President Obama has vowed since his 2008 presidential campaign to close the facility, but there are still 143 prisoners held inside its gates.
