Al Roker’s attempt to set a world record for the longest uninterrupted weather report took an unexpected turn on NBC’s live stream Wednesday night when the weatherman forgot to turn off his microphone before taking his first bathroom break.

The weather report, dubbed #Rokerthon, began at 10 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Roker has pledged to broadcast the weather continuously on the NBC website for 34 hours, Mediaite reported.

“The evening’s most memorable moment came when Al took his first bathroom break — with his microphone streaming sound to viewers,” Today reported.

“Live stream has a new meaning,” Mr. Roker later said.

Social media predictably had a field day.

“Oh no. They’re not killing audio for @Alroker’s break! Noo!!!! This is like a scene from Naked Gun! #rokerthon,” tweeted @KJMacDonald.

“I just heard Al Roker go to the bathroom. Hot mic. Oops. I love this stream. #Rokerthon,” wrote @DLord64.
