JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The Mississippi Supreme Court declined Thursday to revisit its decision that a wrongful-death lawsuit brought by the family of a Navy SEAL killed during a training exercise at a northwest Mississippi shooting range should go to trial.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Shapoor Alexander Ghane Jr. was killed in 2008 when a bullet fired during an exercise struck him in the chest, even though he was wearing a bulletproof vest.

In January, the Supreme Court overturned the dismissal of the lawsuit by a DeSoto County judge.

Attorneys for Mid-South Institute of Self-Defense Shooting asked the court to reconsider its ruling.

The incident occurred on Jan. 30, 2008 during a close-quarters combat training exercise. The private facility has been used for training by the military and law enforcement agencies for years.
