OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - An 82-year-old woman who was involved in a fatal collision with a bicyclist west of Omaha has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor vehicular homicide.
Ruth Jeffers made her plea Wednesday in Douglas County Court in Omaha. Jeffers, of La Vista, is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 7. The misdemeanor charge carries a maximum sentence of a year in jail.
Investigators say Jeffers’ sedan struck former high school teacher Jim Johnston on March 13. The 56-year-old Johnston later was pronounced dead at an Omaha hospital.
