POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) - A ceremony at the Walkway Over the Hudson State Park will honor emergency responders 40 years after a fire devastated the old rail bridge.

The ceremony on Thursday will commemorate the 40th anniversary of the fire that crippled what was then called the Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge. The bridge was eventually restored as walkway with commanding views of the Hudson River.

The event will take place at the park’s east overlook.
