DALLAS, Pa. (AP) - Game commission officials are seeking information on the illegal killing of a large black bear in northeastern Pennsylvania over the weekend.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission says conservation officers in Luzerne County were called to a Bear Creek Township address on Saturday morning.

Officer Phillip White said the initial report was of a road-killed bear, but officers found the bear in the front yard of a home about 15 yards from the road.

He said a necropsy indicated that the 650-pound animal had been shot to death. White said investigators believe the bear was probably killed sometime Friday.

Anyone with information is asked to call the game commission’s northeast regional office.
