JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - A fisheries debate has been called off for lack of participation among U.S. Senate candidates.
Trevor Brown is executive director of the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce.
He said the debate is typically held during ComFish Alaska, a commercial fisheries trade show. But he said there were conflicts then, so the debate was moved to May 23, when the community’s crab festival, which generally draws politicians, is being held.
But he said just two of the four candidates, Democratic U.S. Sen. Mark Begich and Republican Mead Treadwell, confirmed. A spokesman for Republican Senate hopeful Dan Sullivan said he has Marine Corps Reserve training. Republican Joe Miller’s campaign cited a mix-up with the debate invite sent to Miller’s news website.
Brown said the debate will probably be postponed until after the primary.
