CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) - While many universities call upon famous or accomplished speakers to highlight their commencement ceremonies, Eastern Illinois University will turn to its students.
The university announced Wednesday that four students who will be receiving their degrees will speak at graduation ceremonies on Saturday.
They include communication disorders and sciences student Brittany R. Hart from Sullivan, communications studies student Anna Laureen Percival of Effingham, education student Katherine E. Ozark from Orland Park and management student Erika L. Butler of Streamwood.
Eastern Illinois says it started turning over its commencement speaking duties to students last year. They’re chosen based on essays they write and work with faculty members on their speeches.
