NEW PALESTINE, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a 22-year-old man found dead in a central Indiana retention pond more than a month ago was under the influence of prescription narcotics when he drowned.
The Hancock County coroner’s office has ruled Zachary Wood’s March 31 death was an accidental drowning. He also had in his system the prescription painkiller hydrocodone, for which he didn’t have a prescription.
Deputy Coroner Rudy Nylund tells the Daily Reporter (https://bit.ly/QhYRTq ) the amount of medication would have caused impairment.
Authorities say Wood’s father found him in a pond near a New Palestine church where he often went fishing about a mile from the family’s home.
