TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - The Tacoma City Council has approved a resolution that requires a buyer background check for all firearm purchases at gun shows on city of Tacoma property.
The News Tribune reports (https://is.gd/uJiMnQ ) that people selling guns from their private collections had been able to skip the federal background check that state and federal law requires licensed gun dealers to conduct. After Tuesday night’s unanimous vote, all sellers at gun shows on city property will have to run those checks.
Gun show organizer Wes Knodel did not attend Tuesday’s meeting. He told the newspaper on Monday that the policy change is “invasive and not needed.” However, he says he’ll agree to the new terms because he wants to hold more gun shows at the Tacoma Dome.
More than 6,000 people paid a $10 entrance fee to attend a gun show there last month.
