BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) - Two men charged with punching another man outside a Brockton bar have been sentenced to four years in prison each.

The Enterprise reports that Rodney Finch and Kent Johnson were sentenced Monday following their conviction last week on a charge of assault and battery causing serious bodily injury.

Prosecutors say the men beat 41-year-old Brian Bishop outside The Lit restaurant in June 2012

Bishop fell into a coma after falling to the ground and hitting his head on the pavement. He died at a hospital six days later.

Finch and Johnson had faced murder and manslaughter charges, but were acquitted.

Their attorneys argued in court that their punches had not killed bishop because there were no obvious signs of injury on the victim’s body.
