CLAYMONT, Del. (AP) - The Delaware State Police says a pedestrian is in critical condition after being hit by a car in Claymont.

Troopers say it happened around 9 p.m. Saturday in the area of Philadelphia Pike and Pennsylvania Avenue. Troopers say 47-year-old Cary T. Green of Claymont was driving southbound on Philadelphia Pike during a heavy rainstorm when he hit 41-year-old John D. Cleaver of Newark.

Troopers say Cleaver was not crossing in a designated crosswalk when he was struck.

Green was not injured. The Delaware State Police says he has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
