LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The director of the Michigan Office for New Americans will be among the speakers during this year’s Asian Pacific American Heritage Day Celebration at the Michigan Capitol.

Bing Goei will talk Tuesday at the event marking the contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to Michigan’s development.

The event in the Capitol Rotunda is open to the public and will feature a traditional Bhutanese mask dance.

Gov. Rick Snyder created the office this year to attract immigrants to the state and named Goei to lead it. He’s an Asian immigrant who runs one of the state’s biggest floral businesses.

The event is being presented by the Michigan Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission and the Michigan Department of Civil Rights. It’s hosted by state Sen. Hoon-Yung Hopgood and Rep. Sam Singh.
