BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Tribal officials in North Dakota say they want a tribal representative on the State Water Commission.

The Bismarck Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1hFlAAB ) that members of the interim Tribal and State Relations Committee listened to testimony this week from Assistant State Engineer Michelle Klose at the state Capitol.

Klose says there are tremendous needs within the reservations. She says to access state money, tribes would need to partner with political subdivisions such as a city near a reservation on a water project.

The State Water Commission is spending about $515 million over two years on water projects.

Scott Davis, executive director of the North Dakota Indian Affairs Commission, says some of those projects could have an impact on tribal water and tribal voices are important in the process.
