TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - Washington state transportation officials want to know how people feel about the congested stretch of Interstate 5 near Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
The News Tribune reports (https://is.gd/bYdV6I ) officials will discuss their plans for easing traffic and widening the freeway at an open house on June 11 in Dupont.
Transportation planners are narrowing a list of potential ideas from 172 generated at brainstorming sessions.
Everything was up for discussion, including closing some of the nine interchanges on the 11-mile stretch of freeway from the southern limits of DuPont to the state Route 512 interchange in Lakewood. That idea has been dropped from the list but 51 suggestions are still under second review.
For example, planners are looking at whether the ideas push drivers off the freeway to arterial roads.
