ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay says city residents need to lose more weight.

The mayor on Thursday launched an effort to reduce obesity among adult residents by 5 percent by 2018.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (bit.ly/1kd2t5d ) reports that 31 percent of the city’s adult residents are obese, according to a 2011 regional health report.

Slay called obesity “a major social concern” and “one of the greatest drivers of chronic disease and health care costs in the United States.”
