GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - Federal authorities say a 26-year-old woman arrested in a Gulfport traffic stop plans to plead guilty in a case that alleges she had 7 pounds of crystal meth in her vehicle.
The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1pDnqa4 ) Veronica Garcia is set for a change-of-plea hearing June 12 in U.S. District Court.
She had been set for trial on multiple counts of drug-trafficking charges with penalties of five years to life in prison.
A Gulfport police stopped Garcia’s vehicle Feb. 28 for following too closely. Police say her car was searched after learning she had crossed the Mexican border the day before.
Prosecutors say the officer found crystal meth concealed in her vehicle’s drive shaft.
She has been held without bond since her arrest.
