SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - The Illinois Legislature has adopted a resolution to rename a section of Route 161 in southern Illinois for a fallen firefighter.

The (Belleville) News-Democrat reports (bit.ly/1mMiM9h) the resolution honors Tim Jansen.

The section of highway between Bartelso and Germantown would be named Firefighter Tim Jansen Memorial Highway if the measure is signed by Gov. Pat Quinn.

Jansen was a veteran of the Santa Fe Fire Protection District. He was run over by a fire truck and died in December 2012 while fighting a fire.

Illinois Rep. Charlie Meier, a Republican from Okawville, says Jansen gave his life while serving his community.
