WINCHESTER, Va. (AP) - A settlement of more than $1.3 million has been reached in the death of a worker who was operating a crane at Rubbermaid’s Winchester plant.

The Winchester Star (https://bit.ly/SXJdhX) reports that the settlement was reached Thursday in Winchester Circuit Court.

The settlement stems from the April 2012 death of Jack Keith Taylor. His estate sued Valley Group Inc., which installed the crane four days before his death.

Taylor’s estate had initially sought more than $20 million.

The Virginia Department of Labor and Industry conducted an investigation into the deadly accident and found a “willful violation” by Valley Group, according to the suit.

Taylor was 54. He had worked for Rubbermaid for nearly seven years.
