LACONIA, N.H. (AP) - A woman who pleaded guilty to crashing into two teenage girls at a crosswalk in New Hampshire, killing one of them, is scheduled to be sentenced.
Amy Lafond pleaded guilty last week to negligent homicide, second-degree assault, possession of a narcotic and illegal possession of a prescription drug in a plea agreement. In exchange, prosecutors agreed to drop the most serious charge, manslaughter.
She faced 6 1/2 to 14 years in prison at her scheduled sentencing Thursday.
Authorities said the 53-year-old Lafond was speeding and under the influence of prescription drugs on April 19, 2013. Killed in the accident in Laconia was 14-year-old Lilyanna Johnson. Her friend, 14-year-old Alyssa Miner, was seriously injured.
Prosecutors said they did not have enough proof to show that Lafond was impaired.
