NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) - Cash-strapped North Las Vegas is launching a search for a new top executive after interim City Manager Jeff Buchanan announced he’ll step down next month. Nevada’s fourth-largest city issued a statement Wednesday saying Buchanan wants to allow the City Council to find a permanent manager with more experience.

Buchanan will be replaced by current Deputy City Manager Qiong Liu (CHONG LOO) until a replacement is hired.

Buchanan was city fire chief before being promoted in August during an executive shuffle following Mayor John Lee’s election.

Buchanan helped the city navigate a looming budget crisis in April, when four city employee unions agreed to concessions aimed at avoiding a state takeover of city finances.

Buchanan’s last day will be June 10. It’s not immediately clear if he’ll remain with the city.
